June 2019
Shrek - Company
Welcome
Welcome to the June/July newsletter! Our first show of this year was of course, Shrek the Musical, which was very well received by both adults and kids alike, with very satisfying ticket sales and much laughter all round! Congratulations to director, Donna Fairall and all the cast and crew. You can see production photos in the web gallery - thanks to Rebeccalynne Photography for the photos.
As usual we moved swiftly on to auditions for our November production, Rodgers and Hammerstein's classic South Pacific, held earlier this month. Director Judi Williams is very happy with her cast; just scroll down to see the cast list!
It's looking like being a busy winter for community theatre, with CHATS holding hotly anticipated auditions for The Mousetrap in late June, and their production of Jaq and the Green Pork opening in July. In addition, Naidu Performing Arts are holding auditions for their production of It Takes a Village in July. Just scroll down to 'Diary Dates' for more information.
Please be advised that our AGM will be held on Sunday August 25th at the O Block Theatre, CHEC Campus. Come and join us for a sausage sizzle at 11:30 am, with the AGM starting at 12:00 noon. Visit the AGM page for more information or to download a nomination form. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
We've expanded the information available on the 'About Us' page of our website, on the Committee tab, and there you can find the dates of committee meetings, and information on how to attend or obtain copies of previous minutes. We hope this will also encourage you, our members to get actively involved with running the company.
After nearly ten years as Company Secretary, I will stepping down to have a break this year. We'd like anyone with strong administrative skills, graphic design skills, experience with website management and/or MailChimp to consider standing for committee or volunteering to help out in some way. Or anyone who would be willing to learn!

Shrek the Musical

That'll do Donkey....that'll do! Our Freak Flag has officially flown for the final time!
18 Shrektastic shows have been enjoyed by many enthusiastic Coffs Harbour patrons, alongside many family members who travelled from Queensland and Sydney.
A big thank you to everyone who performed, participated and promoted...supported, supplied and sewed costumes...learned lines, learned songs and learned choreography!
It is always a wonderful experience to share four months of rehearsals with a talented bunch of creative people to produce a top quality show. New friendships are formed, while supporting and encouraging each other.
I would especially like to thank Tim Egan who helps my creative process stay organised and on schedule while being an amazing and patient musical director.
Also a special mention of the Choreographers award, 'Most Improved Dancer' awarded to Di O'Ferrall.
See you on the stage!

From the President

Hi everyone,
Thank you to the amazing cast crew and production team of Shrek - another incredibly successful season is complete and the crowds certainly enjoyed this classic film being brought to life on stage. Again we had a wonderful mix of talent involved, all ages, new performers to the stage and few well known faces too. Our director Donna Fairall weaved her magic yet again, so thank you from the company and the Coffs Harbour audiences.
We recently had an enquiry regarding the communication of company business, so I would like to remind members of how they can be kept up to date. First of all this newsletter contains a wealth of information and is produced bi-monthly thanks to our wonderful secretary Di O'Ferrall. We also have a well maintained website, Facebook and Instagram pages. Members are welcome to contact committee via the company email and Facebook messaging and the executive members phone details are also readily available.
The committee are always happy to discuss matters with members if they wish to find out more. We also welcome suggestions from members regarding the company and will table all correspondence at our monthly meetings. If you want to know when our meetings are being held or have access to minutes, check the Committee page of our website or please contact us via the methods mentioned above. We would love to hear from you!
Congratulations to all those people who auditioned for South Pacific and to those who secured roles. We have a very talented cast who will bring this classic to life in November for it's 70th anniversary! There is no doubt that such shows withstand the test of time. Thank you to Judi Williams and the audition panel for their work in selecting the cast.

From the Director

Well we are all off to the South Pacific for a bit of island life in November!
Auditions went well although we are a bit light on for young male sailors, so if you know anyone who might be interested please let me know.
This is a classic Rodgers and Hammerstein production with fabulous music, and deals with all facets of life during the Second World War in the Pacific. The underlying current of discrimination is something we are still dealing with today.
We have some fabulous talent on board and a few surprises for those who think they have seen it all before. Tickets are on sale already, so book now for what I am sure is going to be a great show.
