April 2018
Our first production of the year, Seussical opens on May 4th, and the cast and orchestra have been working hard together to produce an amazing sound. Take a look at some of the pre-production photos. Photos courtesy of Simon Whittaker, with additional photos by Cate Walsh.
Josie Armstrong and Hannah McKeon are double cast in the juvenile lead role of Jo Jo. If you want to see a particular child you can check the cast schedule before you book. The cast features lots of enthusiastic young people, many newcomers, and a strong cast of principals. There are a number of family links, with husband and wife team Lauren & Ainsley Corbett, mother and daughter Lisa and Hannah McKeon, and father and daughter Trevor and Courtney Martyn. Great way to do a show and still spend time with your family!
Now is the time to buy tickets and share the Facebook event among your friends!
For the last several productions we have been pleased to offer entertainment students work placement opportunities. Encouraging an interest in theatre is a good investment in our future, as of course is developing our youth wing, CHMCC Junior.
The Juniors have recently held their AGM, and the current junior committee form the backbone of the production team for their production of Alice in Wonderland Jr, which will be on stage in September. Scroll down to read more about CHMCC Junior.
Finally the next big thing will be Les Mis auditions, to be held over the June long weekend. If you’re going away, there will be the opportunity to book a pre-audition in the week prior. Full information on the auditions is available here, and you can read more below from co-directors John Greene and Paul McLeod. Specific audition pieces will be required - make sure you read all the information in the Audition Pack and FAQ's.
Join us at the theatre as we prepare to think all the thinks with Seussical the Musical!

“Oh the thinks you can think!”......
Our May production of Seussical the Musical is shaping up to be a fun-filled, colourful and extremely entertaining experience for audiences of all ages. Many of us grew up with Dr Seuss books in our homes and the characters will be very familiar to you.
It features the Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Sour Kangaroo, Thing 1 & Thing 2 and the Grinch even manages to make an appearance. All this tied together with an eclectic mix of music will certainly keep you entertained. Get your tickets now to avoid disappointment!
We would appreciate some assistance with some volunteers for backstage crew and front of house (ushers) for Seussical. If you are willing and able to assist, please contact us and we would welcome your involvement with open arms! (16 yrs and over is the requirement for these positions). Backstage volunteers please contact Stage Manager Judi Williams on 0427 134429.
Ushers please contact Jenny Beatson at [email protected].
Our junior committee have been elected for another year, so congratulations to those who were elected to represent the youth of the area in all things theatre. Rehearsals for the production of Alice in Wonderland Junior have commenced and we have a talented cast of 36 young people who are excited to present this show in September this year. I am very impressed with the amount of talent amongst our junior members and they will do an amazing job.
Cheers and see you at Seussical!

Well, well, well; here we are less than two weeks out from our Opening Night. First up I could not be prouder of this incredible cast who have worked tirelessly for the past four months learning complex harmonies, lines, choreography and all the rest. Adding in staging with costumes and a fantastic production crew it is already a super fun high energy show certain to appeal to mums, dads, kids, grandparents, singles, couples and everyone in between. A team effort from all involved to bring the wonderful wacky world of Seuss to life for the audience enjoyment.
We have recently had our sitzprobe with the band; mixing the amazing cast vocals with the musical talents of the band led by Tim Egan is an unreal feeling. Let me tell you it sounds AMAZING!!
We recently were down at the Harbourside markets where the cast beautifully sung through a few of our numbers from the show to give the community a little taste. This with some appearances out at the Moonee Tavern have allowed us to speak with the community and hear how interested and excited they are for this show.
Our crew is coming together and the shed boys are hard at work all of them working their magic so you can experience it yourselves.
Don’t miss out on being taken from the planet of WHO to the Jungle of Nool, Palm Beach and McElligot's Pool with all your favourites. (How many can you spot?).
We are ready and look forward to seeing you there.

The first year of the new junior subcommittee was exciting and hectic to say the least. The past 12 months have included a successful 3 day Summer School, auditions for an ongoing musical to be on stage in September this year and many weekly meetings on planning future projects. The first few months was just our committee planning fundraising events to raise money and talking about our idea on what we could make of this new idea of CHMCC Jr. We rolled around the idea of hosting a workshop or summer school, for young kids willing to spend a few days practising and enhancing their crafts and talents with local CHMCC members as teachers. We decided on a 3 day Summer School in January would be the best option for us, we organised 8 guest teachers to come and teach a group of 30 kids aged 8-18. The Summer School was super successful and the kids had a great time.
Our next idea was to put on a Jr musical, a hectic and exciting idea but with the help of President Tim Egan we felt we could pull it off and after much deliberation we landed on the show of “Alice in wonderland Jr”. This production is starting to shape up as we found the perfect cast from our audition day, on the 17th of March, with help from Tim and Ursula. Our audition day was successful to say the least as we had approximately 65 kids audition. We witnessed some amazing talent and are ready to get underway with Rehearsals.
Planning and organising for this musical is going underway pretty smoothly. Starting with a rehearsal space being organised and thanks to David Bateman from CHEC we are able to use the facilities for rehearsals on Thursday and Saturday nights. Our set is beginning with Regan and Tom having a design meeting with set designer Frank and costuming, hair and makeup are already being planned by Emily, Kate and Molly. We hope the show is a success.
The Junior committee branch has acknowledged that this had been a wonderful learning experience. Although there have been a few issues which have needed to be resolved, we have taken this onboard and have learnt how to deal with such issues, should they arise in the future. We are so thankful to have this opportunity and we thank Tim for organising this amazing idea of a JR subcommittee.

Cast List - Alice in Wonderland Jr.
Les Misérables - From the Directors
At the time of writing it's about 6 weeks until our Les Miserables auditions and to say I’m excited is just ... WOW ! .... an understatement.
Co-director Paul McLeod and I have been for months, and still are, busy with all the pre-production requirements surrounding our 20 performance staging of Les Miserables for November 2018.
Back to the auditions, to be held over the Queens Birthday Long Weekend in June:
Saturday 9th for Adults; Sunday10th Children; Monday 11th overflow and callbacks, as well as Wednesday 13th.
If you are unable to audition on those dates above, we will hold pre-auditions on Wednesday 6th June by appointment only. You must call me to arrange that time, on 0409 282292. I will also let you know where.
Please please look at all the audition requirements on the Auditions page especially for what we want to hear you sing for the role you are auditioning for, (Principals and Ensemble) at your audition. We are asking for specific pieces from Les Miserables, so please do your homework to avoid the disappointment of ‘not being heard’, should you arrive to sing the wrong audition music and not what was asked for. Les Miserables is an all-sung Music Theatre production. We need to know you can sing your chosen audition piece from this show audibly and expressively.
The music is widely available on the internet and in CD form to enable you to hear and learn the music we are asking for, and you can also download the required pieces here.
Of course you will be anxious and nervous, so will we, just know your song well, enjoy singing it and share that with us. We are with you all the way.
I have personally sung in over 42 performances of Les Miserables, 12 in a leading role and 20 in a minor role and ensemble, and Paul knows all the music and every word! We love Les Miserables and we want to take with us the best cast available on this fantastic, fun and exhilarating journey. Sunday 17th June will be our first cast and company get together.
We look forward to seeing and hearing you at your audition. Toi Toi Toi.
