February 2018
Oh the Thinks you can Think!
Hannah McKeon, who shares the role of JoJo with Josie Armstrong
Welcome to the first blog of 2018, and what a lot we have to cover this month!
Auditions for Seussical were held in December, and rehearsals are well under way. While we do have a strong principal cast and an enthusiastic ensemble, we're still struggling with the age-old problem of never having enough men! If you're a keen singer/actor and would like to be in this fun show then do please get in touch. Scroll down to see the full cast list.
In January, CHMCC Junior held their first ever Workshop for young people. The event turned out to be a great success, thanks to a lot of hard work by Tim and the Junior committee, especially Ellie Waters. Thanks also to many of our members who taught workshops over the three days. We couldn't have done it without you! The Juniors learned a lot about organising an event and hope to run a workshop again at a later date.
On the subject of Juniors, we are excited to announce that CHMCC Junior will present Alice in Wonderland Junior in September! A junior musical is a one-act show for young performers, and you can find out how both adults and young people can get involved on the CHMCC Junior page.
Your committee has been extremely busy in the last few months, what with the Juniors and our own two full-length musicals for this year. We are also in the planning stages for a recital/review in July, and hope to have some news about that very soon. We were also very pleased to donate an elliptical trainer to the Mental Health Unit at the Hospital, and dedicate proceeds from a performance of the Sound of Music to the Walsh Family Trust.
Our long-time Wardrobe Mistress, Judi Williams has announced that it's time for her to hang up her hat. If you'd like to get involved with wardrobe/costumes, please do get in touch.
And finally a reminder that CHMCC membership runs per calendar year, which means that it's time to renew your membership! Thank you to those who have already done so. You can download a membership form and find where to send it on the Membership page.
Thanks!

Greetings!
Welcome to the new year. 2018 promises to be an epic year with all the plans we have as a company.
Seussical the Musical is well underway with rehearsals under the leadership of Ainsley Corbett as director for this show. The cast have been working hard learning their vocals and have just started with choreography. We are still looking for some male cast members so please spread the word - it isn’t too late to join the cast of this production. It is a show filled with fun and laughter so we look forward to seeing this on stage in May.
Congratulations to our Junior Committee under the leadership of Ellie Waters, for the most successful summer workshop. There were 32 participants who experienced classes in singing, acting, dancing and technical. Thank you to all tutors who made themselves available to contribute to this venture. Watch this space for more opportunities for young people interested in theatre.
I would be interested in hearing from parents who have children interested in theatre and would welcome the opportunity for regular theatre classes. If your child is interested and is between the ages of 8-18, please contact me via the company email - [email protected]
The class would initially be for 1 hour a week and include opportunities to learn all aspects of theatre performance - acting, singing and dancing. It will depend on interest levels so please spread the word and ask people to make contact.
Bye for now
CHMCC President, Tim Egan

Well what can I say except WOW! After only 3 rehearsals so far the cast of Seussical is sounding fantastic, thanks to the tireless efforts of our AD/Repetiteur Maureen Burgess. Everyone has jumped into rehearsals with great enthusiasm and is tackling the tricky harmonies brilliantly. We are all hard at work to make sure that everyone that comes to see the show will have as much fun watching it as we are having putting it together.
This is a musically challenging show but the cast is taking in their stride and has covered the first few songs of the show with great vigour and plenty of smiles. The combination of old pro’s and newcomers is paying off, with the cast gelling well together and sounding beautiful, it will be fun for the whole family and is definitely going to be one not to be missed.
As is the usual situation we are would still like to add some more voices to bigger our sound.
We currently have a few minor roles to still be filled with confident singers, and there is always room for a few extra men.
So, if you fit the description or know anyone who does please get in touch asap to come and be part of our Seussical family and get involved in some great fun and entertainment.

"I can see that you’ve got quite a mind for your age!
Why, one Think and you dragged me right onto the stage!
Now, I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue
With a Cat such as me, and a Thinker like you!"
So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat (played by Lisa McKeon) at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! All of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville have been lovingly brought to life in this engaging musical.
These classic, colourful tales are seamlessly brought together by young Jojo, (jointly played by Josie Armstrong and Hannah McKeon) “ a thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”!
As each story unfolds you will realise how relevant and profound Dr Seuss’s subtle themes are; making this musical one that appeals to all ages.
Currently in rehearsal, Seussical opens in May. Tickets are on sale now!

Hosts needed
Co Opera will be presenting a production of 'The Barber of Seville' in April at the SCU Campus, clearly a much better venue than the basketball stadium that past opera performances have had to use.
In order for Coffs Harbour to host this wonderful production the cast will need to be billeted in local homes for the duration of their two night stay. We thought some of our members might enjoy this opportunity to interact with and host the performers. Willing hosts will of course receive two complimentary tickets to the production.
The arrangement would also involve basic meals included in the hosting arrangement, consisting of dinner on arrival night, a basic light breakfast, a sandwich or similar packed lunch for performance day and dinner to follow.
If you can help out in this way, please contact Amanda Scott directly at
[email protected], and provide your name, address, phone no, email address and an indication of how many people you could host.
