August 2020
Welcome!
Welcome!
I am delighted to share some exciting news with you in this edition of ‘Upstaged’. Whilst our planned 2020 productions of ‘Into the Woods’ and ‘Mamma Mia’ will not proceed, we are excited to announce two smaller scale productions that will take their place for the November theatre booking.
‘Ordinary Days’ - Directed by Peter Hodges 5th - 15th November
Ordinary Days is a contemporary musical with a four person cast, that tells the story of four young New Yorkers whose lives intersect as they search for fulfillment, happiness, love and cabs.
Through a score of vibrant and memorable songs, their experiences ring startlingly true to life. Ordinary Days is an original musical for anyone who's ever struggled to appreciate the simple things in a complex place. With equal doses of humour and poignancy, it celebrates how 8.3 million individual stories combine in unexpected ways to make New York City such a unique and extraordinary home.
Closed auditions will be held on Saturday 5th September, please refer to the Auditions page for further details.
‘Back to the Theatre’ - Directed by John Greene 20th - 29th November
Have you been longing to get back to the theatre? You're in luck! We are excited to announce “Back to The Theatre” a 2 hour concert featuring ensembles, duets and solos from past and possible future CHMCC productions.
John and his team have assembled a talented, smaller than usual cast of outstandingly gifted local CHMCC performers to bring this show to life. Scroll down to find out more!
A reminder our Annual General Meeting is fast approaching and will be held on Sunday August 30th 2020, at 11am at RED-C Events, Jordan Esplanade, Coffs Harbour NSW 2450 (Old Deep Sea Fishing Club).
All members, family and friends are welcome to attend the AGM which will be held in a private function room inside the venue.
Following the meeting we encourage you to stay for lunch and help support RED-C events, who are a not-for-profit organisation that supports the music and creative industries. Some of our CHMCC members will be performing later in the afternoon, based on the line up you won’t want to miss it!
Members in good financial standing may vote at the AGM. Membership renewals closed on Sunday 16th August 2020, as such memberships submitted after this date are ineligible to vote at this year's AGM. All positions on the executive (President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary) plus 6 regular committee positions are all open for election.
This year we have several long serving committee members retiring form their positions. We would like to thank each of them for their commitment to our organisation and encourage those who have an interest in being involved in the committee to nominate for a position, you can download a nomination form here.

Hi Folks
With the AGM about to happen in a couple of weeks, another year of theatre and the end of my Presidency draws to a close. It is impossible to review 2020 without acknowledging the devastating effect that COVID-19 has had on all our lives both locally and worldwide. It has been incredibly frustrating trying to run our company without access to our members or the option of a performance in the theatre. However.. to my mind it has emphasised the importance of the arts to our community.
How many of us were entertained by the simple but ultimately worldwide phenomenon of those people who dressed up for the simple task of taking out the rubbish bins. That was theatre in its simplest form and it kept us entertained at a trying time.
Local, national and international artists have soothed our souls with free performances of music and theatre, along with locally the wonderful Couch Concerts organised by the very talented and irrepressible Jade Naidu, which have given many members the opportunity to do the things they love without risk.
These are the things that have fed our sorry souls during these difficult times and it proves the great need we all have to be involved and entertained. I therefore encourage you all to stay strong and become involved.
Rehearsals are already underway for our abridged November performances. Our sister company CHATS has revived their production of 'Romeo and Juliet' which will be on stage in October and plans are still in place for our 2021 season of 'Into the Woods' and 'Mamma Mia'. So there is much to look forward to.
As you all know by now I will be stepping down from my involvement in the committee to enjoy a more relaxed time at home with my lovely husband. However I will still be involved with the company wherever I am needed and I encourage you all to also become involved. There are positions vacant on committee so why not put in a nomination, I can assure you it will be a worthwhile experience and will ultimately help not only yourself but the whole community to benefit from a lively and entertaining theatre experience.
See you at the theatre. Regards,
Judi Williams
