Welcome!
There has been quite a lot happening since the last edition, firstly with auditions for Mary Poppins; the show is now fully cast and our thanks to all who auditioned. You can see the full cast list here.
Then there was our annual social extravaganza, the Gala Arts Ball, and our thanks go to the organising team of John Greene, Donna Fairall, and Colin Wilkes and EJ Ford (pictured below, at the ball).
From the President
As you may be aware, there are a couple of notable things on this month. On Sunday the 21st we have the naming of the construction shed for our former President Bill Jacobs, to which you are all invited. Aside from honouring Bill and his contribution to CHMCC, and in keeping with what he would have loved, we'll be putting on a bbq and some bevvies, so please join us on this very special day.
The following Sunday, 28th, is our AGM, and as much as I know this is of very little interest to most of you, I would really urge you to attend. Our AGMs rarely go for more than 45 minutes, so it's not an enormous chunk out of your life, but if you have ever done a show or been involved in any way with a production, you might consider standing for committee or at the very least having a say in the make up of the committee, it is in your best interests.
A few of our current members are not standing again this year and if I am re-elected as President this will be my last year, so my fervent hope is that some younger people will come on board and inject some new blood into the company and continue to build on all that we've achieved. I have given the committee 13 years and some of us have been there even longer, primarily because no one else was prepared to have a go. We meet for a few hours once a month, usually over a meal, and as each production nears, our workload generally increases, so there is definitely a time commitment, but it's not massively prohibitive, and the rewards in being involved in a production from inception to completion are immense.
There are also inevitably some downsides. When I mentioned before about the workload, sadly it often falls on committee to pick up any slack e.g. making sure the theatre is left spotless, laundering costumes, organizing, advertising and cleaning up after social events, organizing and attending working bees etc, because although we put the word out to all our members, we don't always get an enthusiastic response. Sadly but I suppose also inevitably and despite our best efforts, we also face a fair amount of criticism for any number of reasons, our choice of productions, how we hold auditions, how we organize complimentary tickets, and everything in between, and that can definitely cause a lot of hurt and stress.
Despite all of these things, there are absolutely more positives than negatives, and I feel a genuine sense of pride in all the wonderful productions we have done, for giving the talented and the not so talented the opportunity to perform, for nurturing and encouraging the shy and less confident, for the friendships forged, for providing the many hours of entertainment to many hundreds of people, and to all the happiness and joy we have brought to so many. I believe we have an amazing company, and I hope we can continue to move onwards and upwards for many more years. I believe that the only way to achieve this is with some fresh new committee members. Please, please give it some thought!
I very much hope to see you all on the 21st and/or the 28th.

A Call to Arms!
I have been a committee member for the past 2 years and have really enjoyed my time - I am stepping away this year to have a break and allow some fresh bodies a turn.
For those who may be considering it but are not sure of what's involved, let me fill you in . The committee meets only once per month for 1-3 hours (usually on a weekend afternoon) so there is not a huge time commitment. The meetings are fun & friendly - you either bring a plate or meet at a place with yummy edibles (always a good thing in my books) and get through the meeting agenda whilst noshing on nice things.
It's a chance to get involved behind the scenes; the company is the producer of each of our shows and you will enjoy getting to know more of the mechanics of putting a show on. The committee is often the unsung hero in our productions but you will be a part of a team who gets a good job done (it's amazing what goes on beyond rehearsals and performances!). You will make new friends and enjoy old ones. You will be an integral part of making decisions for a really great community of fellow performers and crew.
I write this call to arms as the committee needs us members to rise up and to be a voice for the members; every one of us who loves to perform in our shows has ideas, passions and knowledge that we can bring as an asset. As there are some of us that have been such a voice for years (most more than my past two), I reckon the coming elections at the AGM will be a good chance to get fresh minds and new voices in the mix. There's no expectation that by standing for election you will be still doing this in your dotage so have a go and see what you can achieve in the next 12 months.

From the Director - Mary Poppins
We had some fabulous talent to choose from and some decisions were very tough indeed.
Congratulations to our cast who have already been working their butts off! The big show stopping number “Super-calif-ragil-isticexpialidocious!” is already under their belt with amazing choreography and fantastic harmonies. It is described as a tongue twister both verbally and physically. It has been lots of fun with lots of laughs (and challenges) and we’ve only just begun! I am so proud of how everyone has thrown themselves into this number.
It is wonderful to be working with old friends again as well as many new faces who have joined us at CHMCC. Be sure to tell your friends that this will be a fun family show that they won’t want to miss!
